Our IPL pigment removal can erase unwanted pigmentation such as sunspots and liver spots which are often associated with skin ageing and sun damage. Generally, these pigment spots pose no health risk. Freckling and age spots can be successfully lightened or removed with our Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment. We can also treat other pigmentation concerns such as freckles and birthmarks.

How does the treatment work?

The Laser/IPL releases short bursts of light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin (colour) found within freckles, sunspots or age spots. The quick absorption of light heats the melanin and destroys the melanin-rich cells without affecting the surrounding skin. Generally, any area on the body can be treated. We find that the most common areas to be treated are face, neck, décolletage and hands. Generally, 1-3 treatments are sufficient for freckles, sunspots and age spots at 4-6-week intervals.

What does treatment feel like?

Treatment can be mildly uncomfortable, like the sensation of a hot pin prick, and a warm, tingling sensation, not unlike sunburn, can be experienced afterwards.

What should I expect after treatment?

Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappears within a couple of hours to a couple of days.  Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur

The pigment will darken over the following few days after treatment and may appear more obvious for around 1-3 weeks. It can also feel a little bit dry and flaky during this time before the pigment actually flakes off and you should be left with an area without excess pigmentation.

Am I suitable for pigment removal treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned clients. We cannot treat moles or raised pigmentation patches; these would be better suited for a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon to remove.
